I rather not see this added to Haiku either as a symlink or as hack in
runtime loader.
I find usr very confusing, which Stephan proves with the above comment.

There are ways to make this easier while not making the system more
complex or confusing.
On the top of my head one way would be to  create a execution
environment that behaves more like UNIX so instead of './configure'
you'd do 'unixy configure'.

Keep the system simple. Find a better way to solve the problem.
