Isn't everything just a texture nowadays? Do any cards exist that support multiple hardware cursors as a distinct 2D acceleration block that could actually be used? It seems to me that any "future" accelerant API should basically just depend on 3D hardware - eg texture surfaces that can be rapidly composited in hardware. With that would also come the flexibility to support any number of cursors, along with all sorts of other things, without needing specific accelerant hooks for every possible feature.
