If it's only 40K then a floppy can be a good option :)

To others : Can Haiku read/write to other than Fat/Fat32 and BFS?
then perhaps format it to other than Fat?

Can you install BeOS or Haiku on the laptop you run Linux on?
If so the you can use BFS on the USB stick.
