This seems like a poor assumption to make. Sometimes the "latest"
version of an app or library needs to be downgraded, due to
compatibility issues, regressions or such.
I'm working on a BeShare update for HaikuPorts, and want to downgrade the
Muscle library to version 3, while the one in the system is 6. Guess I'll
fake it with a "muscle_3" package just for downgrading to a library that's
more compatible with BeOS Beshare systems.
Actually, I see that too in the Linux world with VirtualBox_4.0 and others
up to VirtualBox_5.1 being different packages in the system, you can
install either, with bug fixes back-ported to both old and new versions.
