From the aesthetic point of view I like something compact as that! The current notifier window uses way to much space. The goal should be to make the notification system as less obtrusive as possible. Something moveable would be a plus too, e.g. a normal Haiku window like in the screenshot.

Isn't the right bottom screen corner a better position for the notification window? Normally you start working in the left top corner of a window thus the right bottom corner should be the corner that most likely is not currently used and can be occluded by the notification window.

- just in case you haven't seen it already by yourself: when downloading mails from different accounts at the same time the notifier window looks very erratic, sub windows are jumping around, wrong labels... Can't click away the download window, it pops up again...

- The goal was actually to derive a new class e.g. MailNotifierBNotification from MailNotifier instead changing the DefaultNotifier. As I found the old approach not to bad, this way it would be easily comparable with BNotifications... But I think the BNotification approach is the way to go.
