Nice, but shouldn't the names be {start|stop}_watching_system() instead? At 
least I think it sounds a bit odd now, but maybe that's just me.
My first reaction was just the same. If Ingo didn't have a good reason for the the names he chose, I'd be for going with what appears to be more expected.
