For what it is worth I support Stephan's commit for most of the reasons people have already said: it is unobtrusive and will likely be useful to a lot of users (like it or not a lot of people have used Windows or Linux before Haiku.) I can see myself using it for sure. I do think having some standard mappings for the function keys might be nice too, but not at all critical. On a somewhat related note I have for a long time wanted to redo the Shortcuts preferences GUI, and already have some designs in mind.
