Haiku being open source, I think the situation has changed a bit. Our stance 
with translators and so on is that we shall include at least all the ones 
that support reading a format. So if anyone writes a new translator today, it 
should become part of the repository, hopefully, and then it should also use 
BaseTranslator.

And even for everything else, I think the Haiku repository should be one of 
the first addresses for anyone wanting to look at example code which uses the 
API.
