This is great! I am not sure if this question belongs here, but I will ask anyway: is there any way that selecting a language can trigger a change font settings? As it is now, selecting Japanese does switch the language, but it is not readable as the default fonts do not have Japanese glyphs (I suspect this happens with other languages as well). The plan is a little more subtle : the idea is to have a font overlay that will notice the glyph is missing from the default font and select another one with a matching glyph. This is how it is done on other systems, and it allows you to select any font and still see the japanese characters when you need them.
Yes, font overlay would definitely take care of this, and that's good as a long term goal. I was hoping there could be temporary workaround until font overlay is implemented, so that languages like Japanese could also be enabled and actually used for the installation.
I looked in Trac, and it seems there is no enhancement ticket for adding font overlay. Should I add a ticket?
Also, would this be a good project for GSOC? If so, I could add it to the "Google Summer of Code Ideas for Haiku" page in the Trac wiki. Thoughts?
