Uh, Haiku is an international system; if something is unweildy in a
certain language I'd expect we'd make a change, yes. In this case,
however, since the feature is basically *never* used, having it in a
dialog users will see on a daily/weekly basis does not make sense. So
the simplest solution was chosen: remove it.
Furthermore, the
Debugger is not going to be part of the base system image forever.
Part of the reason it was split out to move the core functionality
into a lib is to the crash reporting logic can be separated out into
dedicated tools onto a regular end user install, at which point it
will only be available if development packages are installed.
We're always going to have the text-mode Debugger for app_server
crashes, yes? Instructing users to run a sequence of commands in a
Terminal is often easier than getting them to follow a GUI, as they
can just copy and paste commands. So that doesn't seem to be much of
an argument.
Either revert this and find a better solution, or I will.
"No unilateral decisions" is something that applies to all developers.
If it were clear that I was in the minority, I would indeed have
reverted this change already. However, since as I already stated there
are 3 contributors (including myself) firmly in favor of this change,
1 netural(?), and 1 (besides yourself) in mild opposition only (BGA),
I don't see how reverting this would be going with the majority
opinion here.
Again, the feature was basically never used in the ~2-3 years it has
been in the main UI. If you want to code a more complex solution that
does not make dialogs that look as ugly as the one in the screen
capture above, then by all means please do; or if the other developers
who have not chimed in yet think it should stay in spite of its rare
usage, *then* it should be reverted.
