Should virtual networks be defined by some kind of 'profile' and
interfaces created and constructed when connecting (like linux)... or
should the interfaces be constructed when created by the user
(/dev/net/vpn/myconnection) and have all the knowledge they need to
connect when enabled?
The later seems more elegant to me. You guys sold me on the idea.
I think it's indeed more elegant. Simply "ifconfig vpn up", and you are
connected. Although, it would be interesting to see how it all works out
with routing and such. Might lurk a bug in there (if you would want to
route everything through VPN, the routes should exist even if the
interface is down).
If you can manage to do it like this, sure, but you mentioned that this
kind of setup would not work with OpenVPN which is why I skipped that idea.
