I suppose they didn't "have" to be changed, but now instead of looking
up & connecting to https://api.haiku-os.org, getting 301, then looking
up & connecting to https://www.haiku-os.org, the first
lookup/connect/redirect has been eliminated, making the first load
slightly faster.
That kind of misses the point of redirects.
If "api.haiku-os.org" is the URL to access the docs, and we consistently
use that everywhere, we can change where we host it by just changing the
redirect. However, if you make efforts to not use the redirect, next
time we want to move the docs, we have to update the links everywhere
again.
Also, 301 is cacheable so the redirection is done only once (for
browsers that have a cache, that is).
