I think you are referring to some future behavior, and I actually can't see 
why the loop should
exit on something different than the port close. The opposite situation may 
happen, what if an
error code which isn't fatal makes the loop to exit?

At least that is easily detected and debugged. I prefer that the thread stops, 
rather than going into an infinite loop (as the mail daemon currently does on 
my machine for similar reasons...)
