Out of curiosity: why remove the trailing dot? We cannot build on
Windows,
anyway.

Because with the trailing dot, you can't even *clone* the repository
on Windows for any reason, as it leaves the checkout tree in limbo.
These were the only two files blocking a proper checkout, so I figured
I'd fix them.

Since when? I've cloned the tree on Windows multiple times without issue in
the past.
