Done in hrev46218 although at the script level.

Untested on images though (need some AddVariable... but it should work).

The rule option would have meant fiddling with grists or locations on
binaries and I wasn't confident enough on handling the side effects
correctly (like dependency chains).
Feel free to do it but it works for me(tm).
