The question becomes: Why are they not the same, and is that a valid scenario? If it's OK for them to be different, then the ASSERT() shouldn't be here - but as Siarzhuk suggests, the original developer who added this assertion decided that it they are supposed to ALWAYS be the same, and if they are not, then something went wrong. - Urias
