I would just remove them. ATM I don't see any other candidate for outsourcing and when the lines are commented they don't help anyone anyway.

No worries. We can just remove the lines now and rebuild the packages at an opportune time later. Given that an update to gcc 4.8 will probably happen in the not so distant future, that might be pretty soon at least for gcc 4.
