I was looking at all the myriad type definitions and thought the same
thing. Even in the GPT partitioning system sources it contained two
separate definitions, whose purpose I couldn't fathom...

IIRC I wrote the GPT add-on originally. Maybe I'm even to blame for that if you point it out to me :-)

If you don't mind, I'd prefer to do that work as a separate commit.
