That (space wastage) was one of the problems with the last proposition, which I mentioned in the earlier e-mail. Your design has a really nice BeOS/Haiku feel in it, since most preferences applications were using this layout. But there are a few things I don't like about this idea. Package names are indeed quite compact, but not every one of them. Imagine the situation when a package with a big name would be installed on the system. Even with resize to fit the application would loose its visual balance greatly, because it would have a wide listview followed by a wide description view. The result is a wide window, with normal height. This wouldn't look too good and a bit inconsistent. The reason for this is that the listview height in this configuration would be the same as the description view - i.e. as big as the window. Even with fixed size listviews, finding the right width so that both issues would be solved would be quite hard. I also think that in this layout a little too much emphasis is put on the package description. That's, of course, my private opinion. It would be best if the more experienced, usability specialists would comment on this proposition ;-) -- Best regards, Łukasz 'Sil2100' Zemczak WIRTUALNA POLSKA SA, ul.
