Hmm that's weird. I'm on a MacBook Pro using Firefox 3.6b1. I just checked
in Chromium and Safari, they do the same (although Chromium does it slightly
less drastical). Perhaps Still, case in point: I like the softer yellow.

Because of the stark background contrasts with screenshot "0", I have great
difficulty seeing it. What was the intention you had with putting a gradient
in the border?
Also, what I think may help make the yellow tab stand out from the other
tabs in the multitab window is using shadows after all (see the Nicholas
Blachford discussion for people's thoughts on that).
