#8472: A3 Hangs at boot, video problem. ----------------------------------------+------------------------- Reporter: stellar_power | Owner: nobody Type: bug | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: R1 Component: Audio & Video | Version: R1/alpha3 Keywords: Matrox, video, crash, hang | Blocked By: Blocking: | Has a Patch: 0 Platform: x86 | ----------------------------------------+------------------------- I have an Asus ''P5E3'' motherboard with an ''XFX NVidia GeForce 8500'' graphics card in a PCI-E x16 slot and a very old Matrox card in a PCI slot (I'm not sure of the product number, I'll get it as soon as I can). I didn't plan to use the Matrox card under Haiku as I couldn't find any support for it, unsurprisingly given its age and peculiarity. Anyway, when I boot into Alpha 3, the system hangs on the rocket icon unless I use fail safe video mode. If I do this, the system often crashes eventually, normally when I change workspace. There have been times when the screen has gone black, and whilst the mouse responds, it only turns the black to white in blocks where it moves. I haven't been able to reproduce this yet after learning how to get a syslog. The most frequent crash whilst the system is up is when the app server drops into gdb, and I'm afraid I haven't a clue how to debug it from there so I can't give you any more information than another syslog. I should mention that without the Matrox card, the problem goes away, but I did want to use it in Windows for some video editing/capturing. -- Ticket URL: <http://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/8472> Haiku <http://dev.haiku-os.org> Haiku - the operating system.
