It's actually fully intentional on my side that these devices aren't
picked by their usage but by their capabilities. Mouse-similar devices
with two axis is good enough to drive the pointer. That absolute mode
isn't supported and therefore joysticks and the like are currently
problematic is just a missing feature, it doesn't mean that these devices
shouldn't be picked up per se.
