#4028: Hybrid GPT/MBR Initial Program Loader ----------------------------+--------------------------- Reporter: meianoite | Owner: axeld Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: R1 Component: File Systems | Version: R1/pre-alpha1 Resolution: | Keywords: Blocked By: | Blocking: Has a Patch: 1 | Platform: All ----------------------------+--------------------------- Comment (by axeld): Replying to [comment:18 meianoite]: > Because it is not broken. To assume a complete, valid MBR with no partitions set is not unreasonable IMHO. I'm not sure I can follow your line of reasoning: even if something is not broken, it's no argument to keep it as it is if it's not convenient to use, and requires extra work on another place. But that aside, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the anyboot mechanism already needs to have a detailed knowledge about the MBR, as it needs to write the partition table itself -- and thus, requiring a complete 512 byte boot loader doesn't make much sense to me. -- Ticket URL: <http://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/4028#comment:19> Haiku <http://dev.haiku-os.org> Haiku - the operating system.
