 I'm not sure I can follow your line of reasoning: even if something is not
 broken, it's no argument to keep it as it is if it's not convenient to
 use, and requires extra work on another place.

 But that aside, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the anyboot mechanism
 already needs to have a detailed knowledge about the MBR, as it needs to
 write the partition table itself -- and thus, requiring a complete 512
 byte boot loader doesn't make much sense to me.
