Comment:

 Closing as "won't fix". By design the generic attribute emulation cannot
 be 100% safe, since the inode IDs of files can actually change (while
 those being stable is the assumption the design is based on). I think in
 the meantime pretty much everything possible to improve the situation has
 been done (e.g. removing stuff only via `rm_attrs`). Last time I tried the
 image resulting from a clean build looked good.

 With the introduction of `--use-xattr-ref` there should rarely be any
 reason to use the generic attribute emulation anyway.
