I think this the same issue I've been trying to track down on my laptop.
It seems app-server decides that the mode needs to be changed even if we
are using a UEFI framebuffer. So it tries to do that with VESA calls,
which will not work with a UEFI framebuffer.
Probably due to hidpi screens and the calculated frequency being out of
range for being considered as valid modes.
