Comment (by eu):
Maybe I should mention that the 128GB AMD machine has an abnormally high
number of disks, some of them new NVME SSDs, a couple SATA SSDs and many
SATA HDDs, one used as boot disk (with an EFI partition) and others used
in ZFS pools.
The 64GB Intel machine is more down to earth, with a NVME SSD containing
an EFI partition and a bunch of other partitions for Windows, Linux and
FreeBSD, plus a SATA SSD for data.
Maybe this could also be a reason why the boot process gets stuck.
