Actually, your mouse problem seems to be unrelated to USB:

This is #15729.

Can you use USB on this machine? If so, the errors may be a "fluke" (or
 related to the Webcam or the like which we do not yet utilize.)

 Putting in a USB drive works just fine. So it's definitely not that.
