Yes, so as suggested earlier:

Try to use the partition directly, and if that doesn't work, restore
 the code to attempt to boot from the whole disk instead

This increases our chances that we will somehow manage to find and boot
 the partition in all cases.

 Probably could, the only issue would be doing it in a way that doesn't
 result in the firmware completely hanging.
