#14541: Noto does not render well with subpixel antialiasing enabled

When I just tested R1B1 rc1 (hrev52295+96, x86_64) in VirtualBox, and
turned on sub-pixel antialiasing (and left on hinting) in the Appearance
preflet, I noticed that the default font, Noto, does not render very
nicely (see attached screenshot). It is more apparent for smaller font
sizes, as you can see in the screenshot.
