I agree with your assessment I think. The binaries are already organized
in folders etc, and accessed in ways that convey their belonging to a
group by other means, so the hand part becomes redundant and detracts from
the icon resolution in the way you describe. Unless someone has a better
argument to the contrary it seems pretty reasonably settled to me.
