The crash seems to point to an heap corruption. Can you reproduce with
libroot_debug?

This should give a different (and hopefully more interesting) debug
report.
For the freezes, I analyzed some that did occur here, and they were often
related to a video or audio, which it seems the Media Kit is blocking on
for some time when trying to load them.
