The later "glibc" variant you mentioned above appears to be LGPL licensed;

"haiku/src/build/libgnuregex" builds to a shared library
"libgnuregex_build.so" using "BuildPlatformSharedLibrary". As far as my
understanding goes, the LGPL allows linking to a shared library without
putting licensing requirements on the executable. So this would imply
that upgrading to the LGPL variant would be cleaner better path to take
here.
Does that seem to make sense to you?
