#11445: Network preferences: pretty name instead of path -----------------------------------+---------------------------- Reporter: dsjonny | Owner: axeld Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: R1 Component: Preferences/Network | Version: R1/Development Resolution: | Keywords: Blocked By: | Blocking: Has a Patch: 0 | Platform: All -----------------------------------+---------------------------- Comment (by pulkomandy): There is no direct mapping from drivers to devices that the app can access. A driver may rely on multiple devices, possibly from different busses (PCI, USB, ???) or o device at all (in case of virtual interfaces). I have already made a change to remove "/dev/net/" from the name, to restrict it to the more useful part of the path, I think this is enough. There is no space in the preflet for "82579LM Gigabit Ethernet Connection", and the icon already allows to know wether it is a wired or wireless interface, which is usually enough information to identify the device. -- Ticket URL: <https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/11445#comment:1> Haiku <https://dev.haiku-os.org> Haiku - the operating system.
