Comment:

 The reason for that is fairly simple, it tries to use the most expressive
 format it can for the given date that will fit within the column width. If
 you expand the column wide enough, they will all wind up being in the same
 format. The only alternative would be to either truncate all of them to
 the shortest format, or to wind up with part of the date obscured by a ...
 in order to fit, which would not really be preferable.
