I tested many different dongles, the Sitecom was a CSR (the reference chipset for BlueZ), some others Broadcom, one Silicon Wave, one AVM.

Except for one Broadcom-based Belkin F8T012xx1 (which was being recognized as WLAN dongle instead) they all worked fine under Linux. Don't know if Marcel et al. do anything with Firmware there.

Have you got something published in /dev/bluetooth/... ?
