No offense, but it's a bad idea. Stephan is right - it's a bug. Users 
rightly associate a blinking cursor with the location where text will 
appear when keys are pressed. If there is only one target for keyboard 
events in the system, it should be reflected visually as well. Having a 
checkbox in the preferences panel also goes against the general Be way 
of doing settings - sensible defaults and only having the preferences 
that are most useful.
