OK -- live'n'learn, I guess... (:-)) I thought I had deleted everything important, and I checked that all the libraries we new (though I thought I didn't have to bother to delete them). When I watched the build more closely, I saw that 'ar -cru...' is used to build the libraries. As far as I can see, the "u" part of the option was deciding it didn't have to replace something -- even though all the .o files *were* new! I still don't quite understand, but when I deleted all the libraries and tried again, it went to completion. Sorry for the bother. Thanks, -- Pete --
