Conversion from SVG is far from perfect. You probably won't get around manual intervention. Since you already come from a vector source, I don't think you can improve upon it. If you had a bitmap format, I'd suggest some online tracer tool [1] to get an SVG. But, as said, that probably won't fare better in a conversion in I-O-M...
