The Office of the Queensland Chief Scientist will host The Drone Experience
during National Science Week 2017. We may not be breaking a Guinness World
Record (Largest Practical Science Lesson) this year but we hope to reach great
heights with this drone event and lots of school participation.
Can I ask you to promote the event via your QSEN network by forwarding the

Regan Spence (DET), Kathy Harris (Independent Schools) and Marie Previte
(Catholic Education) will promote to Queensland primary schools. I will also
email the STEM Champions (DET), Rachel Bilsborough (STEM for Schools), Jennifer
Harrison (Aerospace Gateway Schools), Anne Brandt (Schools Engagement
Coordinator, UQ) and Jackie Mergard (Alumni, Outreach and Student Experience,
UQ).
The Drone Experience in summary
Dates: Mon 14 August – Fri 18 August 2017
Location: South Brisbane
Invite: Each primary school is invited to register a total of ten students in
one session from Years 5 and 6
No of sessions over the 5 days: 19 with 2 schools per session (total 20
students per session)
Cost: $5 per student (total $50 per school plus GST and Eventbrite fee)
Activity: Drone flying training, safety procedures, a presentation on real
world applications plus a hands-on flying challenge

The Drone Experience
This educational and fun one-hour activity will be held each week-day during
National Science

includes drone flying training, safety procedures, a presentation on real world
applications plus a hands-on flying challenge.
A total of ten students from your school in Years 5 and 6 are invited to
participate in one one-hour session.
Date: Monday 14 August – Friday 18 August 2017
(includes Wednesday, Ekka public holiday in Brisbane)
Time (select one session only):
Monday – one-hour sessions at 10.30 am, 12 noon or 1.15 pm
Tuesday to Friday – one-hour sessions at 9.15 am, 10.30 am, 12 noon or 1.15 pm
