[gvsig-campus] gvSIG Mini surveying wish list (was Re: Re: GSoC reminder)

Hi,

in my opinion there are two different parts on this project.

In one hand the "GPS tracking stuff". The desirable features can be as you mention, tracking and logging locations, allow points, lines or polygons, attach custom forms, etc. Maybe we can take a look to libLocation [1] and test if it can be used on Android as it provides a well known API and several interesting implementations of strategies to filter and smooth the track. There are also some other libs to track GPS locations [2] that could be used by gvSIG Mini (I don't know, I'm just giving ideas).

On the other hand, the output format. Having support for shapes would be very interesting and it could be taken as a priority. I don't know how hard this part is, we should have some support from gvSIG developers (maybe a co-mentor). Anyway having an API to allow several output formats a part from SHP, such as GML, KML, GPX, SpatialLite, etc. would be nice, not coding the writers but the API.

This is some kind of a "wish list", although I'm just a developer, maybe we can poll the gvSIG users list, to see which features they consider most important, not to code all of them but to focus in having something really useful. This is a good moment to gather information, test libraries, feature requests to start planning your summer.

Good luck,

Alberto.

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for the welcome. Well, in a first moment I can think of several suggestion improvements for "gvSIG Mini surveying" feature. For example:

- user can choose POINT, LINE, POLYGON as the geometry type
- user can create a related .dbf whith the information of the object attributes - user can define a simple form to populate the .dbf when element is measured (whith a personal ListView) - user can choose a level of accuracy (depending of future use) of the gps collected data (it requires a statistical strategy) - user can define a "exact" points of the several existing networks for the later adjustment
- user can adjust the data before exporting file
- we can explore the possibility to use a VRS strategy
- etc.

This is a brainstorming, but everything said should be quietly studied. In the other hand, if I have an idea I propose in this mailing list.

Best regards

Hi Raúl,

as you probably know the program is currently in the "organization applications" stage [1], although it's a good moment to introduce you and start discussing possible ideas, so welcome :).

The "gvSIG Mini surveying" feature is a very demanded one among professionals that want to use gvSIG Mini, but feel free to think and propose your own ideas or improve the one proposed.

Best regards.

    Hi,

My name is Raúl and I'm student from Polytechnic University of
Valencia (UPV). I'm really interested to collaborate with the GSoC
2012. Actually I'm interested with the proposal made in wiki about
gvSIG Mini ("Adding GPS Survey capabilities to gvSIG Mini") . I
think that is an excellent idea.

I graduated in Technical Engineer in Topography and also I
graduated in Master about Software Engineering and Information
Systems. Currently I'm doing a Specialist University Title about
Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing. Also I have done an Android
course in UPV that took 200 hours.

    We're in contact.

    Best regards
