Hi everyone,

I have had a strange problem for the last few months. I have Win98/se and
am running JAWS. Last May, we had a storm. I have a UPS and surge
progectors and didn't worry about having my computer on. I was listening to
something on Real Player, and suddenly, off it went with the power. I ended
up having th turn everything off. The computer was still running on the
UPS, but it wouldn't shut down properly.

When I came back up, I found myself using an earlier version of the
registry. I ended up reinstalling several programs. It didn't affect
Office, but it did effect Real Player and Windows Media Player. I also had
to reinstall my firewall and Mcaffee.

Things are mostly going quite well now, except for one thing. Microsoft
Critical Updates kis bothering me at least every 24 hours. I have gone into
accessories and told the function not to give me the automatic updates, but
to no avail. I keep getting messages for the same particular update, one
that is 819k in length. I don't know if this is because of the registry or
because I answered because of the registry corruption, but it is quite
annoying. I will be in the middle of something else, and this Microsoft
Critical Updates window comes jup. I go into it, tell it to notify me
later, or just close it. It makes no differences. I wish there an option,
"Don't notify me at all, but that isn't there. What do I try next?
