  Hello Pam!

Ok! Well the animals kind of rub along together. My pet dog is an
11-year-old Toy Poodle who is now rather deaf! He and the boss cat despise one
another and if the cat comes near me, the Poodle will jump on him and chase him
off but the cat actually just sits there and then the dog doesn’t know what to
do next, it’s quite funny. Time was that they used to stand on their hind legs
and box, but it always scared me as the cat could have taken one of the dog’s
eyes out easily.

Last year on 2nd January, we had a house fire in which one of my cats was
killed. My mum has been doing cat rescue work since I was a kid, and a small
cat had been found stuck up a 50 foot tree all day waving around in the wind.
My mum took me out in her garden to see her collection of foster cats waiting
for homes, and to see my own 3 who had survived the fire and were being housed
with her, as were my dogs and I (my sons had to go to their dad’s), for 4
months, while the house was refurbished and we had to completely replace
everything via insurance. Anyway, I thought this little cat felt like my old
one, her coat, the one I had lost (who was my favourite incidentally), so I
asked if I could adopt her. So she came home with me and has settled in really
well, but the Poodle makes a great game of chasing her. She doesn’t seem
overly bothered really, and what is funny is when she is sitting on my lap or
on the arm of the settee next to me, and he is about a foot away on the other
side (yes, as he is a Poodle and does not really shed hair, he is allowed on
the furniture and my bed!), and as he is so deaf now, he can’t hear her really
ultra loud purring, so has no idea she is there, till he turns round and sees
her, and then she usually flies before he lunges at her!!

I have 2 other cats: they are mother and daughter, the mother is a feral cat
so very nervous although I can touch her and she is not spiteful, but she
cringes when you touch her. The daughter is not that friendly with humans
either but they really love one another, and I gave them a home from my mum’s
rescuing, as very few others would have wanted them as they are.

My guide dog Nyle gets on with everyone. He is just a simpleton in a fur
coat bless him!!

  Mel.

entirely sure what breed she is. i think she is part schnauzer though. do all
your animals get along well with each other?

    Hi Pam!

Nice to meet you. What breed is your pet dog? Your house sounds almost as
mad as mine!

      Hi all!
I am Mel from the UK. Been on the list for a week or so but just not had
a chance to go through my emails for a while. I am working my 6th guide dog
Nyle, a Labrador x Golden Retriever. I had my first girl (Uma) when I was 18
and at university. She did not work out and had to be withdrawn eventually,
and another boy (Hudson) did not work out because of spending problems when my
children were very young, not indoors but in harness and I was not able to keep
stopping with my buggy and having to let go of my other child’s hand, in order
to clean up after him. I only had him for 2 and a half years. All the others
have worked out their normal lives with me. Nyle will be 6 on 1st January. He
has epilepsy which first displayed itself 2 years ago, but it is completely
controlled with medication and he is still working very well and the medication
does not affect him at all in a negative way.
I have 2 sons of 21 and 16 respectively, both of whom live at home with
me still; I am divorced and remarried to a lovely man. I also have a pet Toy
Poodle of 11 and 4 cats.
I already know some of you on here, and hope to get to know more of you
soon. In the meantime, I hope you all have a very merry Xmas and a happy new
year.
      Mel.
