Ukip: Our party cares more about Britain than all the others

VOTERS are turning to Ukip in droves because they have "had enough" of career
politicians, the party's no-nonsense leader Nigel Farage claimed yesterday.

Nigel Farage says Britons are sick of career politicians

Insisting his party had become "far more powerful" than simply a protest vote,
he said Britons felt betrayed by a political class that cared more about career
advancement than battling for a better Britain.

With Ukip hitting an average 13 per cent in the polls and buoyed by pushing the
Tories into third place in the Eastleigh by-election, Mr Farage struck a
defiant note at the party's spring conference in Exeter.

He said: "There is a wholesale rejection of the political professional class in
this country, people have had enough of them. They all look the same and sound
the same, they all go to the same schools, none of them have ever had a job in
the real world and not one of them is in politics for principles.

"Millions of ordinary decent people out there who have been betrayed by a
political class more interested in their own careers and what foreign leaders
think are turning to Ukip."

Mr Farage said the party was able to speak plainly about the impact mass
immigration was having on struggling public services and community cohesion.

He said: "We are not hamstrung by political correctness, not afraid to take on
the issues that everybody else would simply like to brush under the carpet.

"The truth is that on immigration, the Liberal Democrats, Labour and the
Conservatives are all the same because they all support a total open door to
eastern Europe.

"They all support that door being flung wide open to the 29 million people from
Bulgaria and Romania. They even all support Turkey joining the EU with
unlimited access for those 80 million people.

"Our message is simple: we are not against anybody, we wish people from those
former communist countries the very best but it cannot make sense for us to
open our doors to a massive oversupply of unskilled labour in this country at a
time when we have a million young people out of work."

Farage says Cyprus is being bullied and intimidated by the EU

Citing the EU's "monstrous bullying and intimidation" of Cyprus as it faces
economic apocalypse, he said: "It tells me that actually we in Ukip are the
true Europeans because not only do we get the UK out of this anti-democratic
structure, we want the rest of Europe to leave the EU and get back their
independence and democracy.

"We are not anti-European in any way; we wish to live and work and trade with
our neighbours. We want to be friends with Europe but we do not wish to be
governed by European institutions.

"We want an amicable divorce from the political European union and we want to
replace it with a genuine free trade agreement which is what we thought we had
signed up for in the first place.

"It is a basic facet of any state: you should be able to control your own
borders and decide on your own parliament and decide who comes to live, work
and settle in your country."

He said that David Cameron could no longer be trusted on Europe and, referring
to Labour and the Lib Dems, added: "I will make a prediction here and now: it
may well be that at the moment Mr Miliband and Mr Clegg are not promising a
referendum in their next manifesto but after the local elections on May 2, when
we will tear into their vote too, they will make the same pledge.

"And do you know what? We won't believe them either."
