Hi Malcolm, I'm 43. Got my first guide dog at 29 but he retired after being bitten by another dog at 7 and half years. Then waited 6 months for next dog that went lame at 4 and a half years, then 18th month wait for last dog that died of liver failure at 6 years 2 months. All have been loving friends and have brought so much love and happiness into an otherwise rubbish life. Now all alone again. I haven't ventured out on my own since Easter as am avoiding any familiar roots as can't face anyone asking about where is my dog. I tried to go out last week with my cane but couldn't make it past the front door without my friend. Get some sighted help but have lost all independence and motivation to bother. Best wishes, Darren. -----Original Message----- From: M BOWKER - Email Address: bowker288@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent On: 02/07/2012 17:39 Sent To: Dazzling Darren - Email Address: darren.sunjay72@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: In Reply To: [guide.chat] In Reply To: [guide.chat] In Reply To: [guide.chat] To dazzling darren Hi Darren,Can I ask how old you are. I can't believe you could wait up to two years for a dog. I have heard that they are changing a lot of things they do these days. I got my dog's in the early eighty's and I think I waited six to eight weeks for a new dog .I don't have one now as I can't walk far. But two years is crazy. Can you get out with a Cain or do you prefer some sighted help. Well I hope your new dog comes quicker rather than later. Malcolm. Hi Malcolm, Thanks for your kind thoughts. I've given up on going out anywhere at the moment as everywhere I'd go has memories of him and things are still very sore without him. As it was I suffered with severe depression for many years and losing my best friend hurts so bad. Our Lancashire guide dogs team has merged with the Manchester team and this has caused the waiting list to double. As I'm after a big dog they say it could be up to a couple of years wait. I had to wait 18 months for him to come along, but at least my retired dog stayed with me to cover the gap. This time it's back to being all alone again which is pretty shit. Thanks again, Darren. -----Original Message----- From: M BOWKER - Email Address: bowker288@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent On: 02/07/2012 16:31 Sent To: Guide Chat - Email Address: guide.chat@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [guide.chat] In Reply To: [guide.chat] In Reply To: [guide.chat] To dazzling darren Hi Darren, I know what you mean about the guide dog situation. I have been there three times. it feels like you've been grounded. Have your freedom one day and gone the next. If you live on your own its harder. I hope you don't have to wait to long for your new dog. Malcolm. Hi Carol, Sorry to disappoint but not much of a life at the moment since my Guide Dog died in service at Easter aged 6. I'm waiting for a new dog but that could take ages. Nothing really exciting this week except phone chats with a couple of mates. weather bleeding awful so I'm hibernating. Carry on singing. love Dazzling Darren. xxx -----Original Message----- From: Carol O'Connor - Email Address: missbossyboots33@xxxxxxxxx Sent On: 02/07/2012 08:44 Sent To: guide chat - Email Address: guide.chat@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [guide.chat] To dazzling darren Good morning sweetie dareren what weill you be up too all this week? do you go to blind club Darran do you keep busy in the week? let us know Love Carol xxxx .
