Samples of the fish carcasses were sent to labs for analysis where scientists are looking for pH levels changes and any evidence of algae saturation. It is not yet clear whether the birds died as a result of eating the dead fish, or whether there was some other cause. Officials are still awaiting more intensive lab analysis results on the dead fish found at Lake Erie, which included carp, sheepshead, perch, catfish (pictured) and suckers Scientists believe strong winds, storms and a dramatic temperature drops can trigger this natural process. Officials are still awaiting more intensive lab analysis results on the dead fish found at Lake Erie, which included carp, sheepshead, perch, catfish and suckers. The ministry is also said to be looking at the possibility of blue-green algae affecting the fish. Rick Nicholls, Member of Provincial Parliament for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, said an official told him he was concerned there may have been an unauthorized manure dump that could have negatively impacted the lake?s ecosystem Speaking to abc5 Nicholls said that if a manure dump, or any other kind of spill took place criminal charges could be brought. At this time, Canadian officials have not issued any health warnings, but as new information is discovered this could change. Earlier this month, thousands of dead fish washed ashore along the Texas coast from the Colorado River to Galveston Island, Kens5 reported. Biologists suspected low oxygen levels caused the deaths. Last year thousands of dead birds were seen falling from the sky in Arkansas, and hundreds were discovered along a road in California. Dead birds were also reported in Italy and Sweden, and huge quantity of dead fish were found in New Zealand and Brazil.
