i had to rinse with the blue bag to make the whites a bluey white before mangling, still on sale the little blue bag and before pegging on the line, my nan would make me wipe the line clean first, she would not have a washing machine, why would she, she had me, i had to rub on the rubbing board with sunlight soap by hand or should i say my until the skin came off my knuckles. vanessa. -----Original Message----- From: M BOWKER - Email Address: bowker288@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent On: 12/09/2012 17:04 Sent To: Guide Chat - Email Address: guide.chat@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [guide.chat] In Reply To: Back now How lucky you are Carol, three washing machines all to yourself. Made me think back to my young days. I seem to be doing a lot of this lately. But as I was saying. It made me think back to Monday mornings. The old metal tub was brought out and filled with cold water. Then the gas was lit and it was left to come to the boil. Then powder was put in and the sheets and things and we had what they called a possum. a pole with a round metal drum on the end with holes in it. You had to put this in the water and plunge it up and down to wash the sheets etc. Then you had to get the washing out and ring it by hand to get rid of as much water as possible. Then you had to fold it up and put it through the mangle. The sheet or what ever it was went between the rollers which you turned by hand. This would squeeze out most of the water left in it. Then it was put out on the line, weather permitting. We also had what they called the rack which was fastened to the ceiling in the kitchen. You would undo the rope and lower the rack and put small items on there and pull the rack back up to the ceiling until it was dry. When all the washing was dry my mum would put the iron in the oven to heat up ready to iron all the washing. That's why they called Monday wash day. So Carol, next time you are sat in front of three computerized washing machines that do everything for you. Think how lucky you are. love Malcolm. xxx Good afternoon all oh wow rained all day none stop cold i was wearing cardigan . well my carer worked hard today bless her took me to bank post office then to b and m store I treated myself to new clothes horse hey its good only small up to my shoulders and i am only 4 foot 8 and half inches its all in silver nice i paid £13 for it the old tall one gone to skip now dumped it over there. glad got brand new one now then we both carried plastic washing basket to our laundray she put my towels bedding and tea towles in one machine clothes in another in the third one 3 coats how cool is that?. wow nobody is using it at all today so had three washing machines all for myself three tumble dryers brilliant Wehn she went back after one our took some out put in dryer Iwas making two cups of coffee and cheese and tomatoes sandwiches for us oh great when we eaten sandeiches she shreddd some old bills in my electric shredder then she wrote me 2 birthday cards out cool yea oh wow she worked hard couldn't get a carer as good as her she cooked me fish cakes mashed potatoes mixed vegetables yummy good got her tomorrow having hair cut so be avle to stop bumping in to lamp posts tomorrow hahahahahahahahaha right love carol xxxx
