Hi, Jan; I'm with you there. When my mobility was much better than it is now, I used to love hiking. I did it as a Boys Brigade Boy, and later, officer. We have a wealth of great hill walking territory here, the Lowther Hills, Leadhills, Sanquahar fells, and the moors surrounding my town, stretching through Muirkirk right into Lanarkshire and the Douglas valley. I used to love getting the hiking gear on, and pitching a two-man tent whenever we felt tired -always with the local farmer's permission, or, if we were in the midst of a hilly area, by a burn where we drank from the mountain streams and guddled trout, which, after a quick gut with a Swiss Army knife - the blind person's best friend - were spitted over a pine wood fire and cooked. Absolutely unbeatable! Nowadays, I can't walk in the countryside - I've never found a long cane which could stand the punishment - so I'm confined to country roads and paths, and local farm tracks. Luckily I know them very well, and can let my cane do the work as I use my nose and ears to 'feel' what the countryside is doing at any particular time of year. -----Original Message----- From: Jan - Email Address: j.jk.downes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent On: 08/07/2012 22:18 Sent To: chat guide - Email Address: guide.chat@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [guide.chat] Is It over Hello James,am I correct in thinking that you are not too interested in Tennis, I think that there is more to life than sport,I would prefer to walk amongst the beauty of life, which for me is woodland and forestry, where you can feel at one with nature, and those wonderful earthy fragrances that erupt from the earth, especially when the sky's open and the rain fall's,so to create the wonderful earthy smells that fill me with a special longing to lie down and push my face into the earth. I know that might sound strange to some, but it's so natural to me. I must say now, that I am a towny from The big town of London. I have been to Wimpole House today, which is a National Trust property. Weather not so good, but enjoyed the guided tour of the House, also had a good lunch ,but after had a problem with the disabled toilets, but that's another story, but painful!!! I came out of the loo, with a rather large cupid's bow!!!! Oh,not such a good end to the day,but life's like that. Sleep well, sweet dreams Jan. ----- No virus found in this message.
