Hi, Dawn; You must have been both frightened and angry. I doubt if Guide Dogs, or the Government, for that matter, can do much about the fireworks thing, though. I googled a few sites this morning; After only five minutes, I found sites where you can import fireworks by the vanload - without a licence. Most of them, though, come from China or Malaya, and I doubt whether they have had a safety check at any time. -----Original Message----- From: Dawn Watson - Email Address: dawnyhen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent On: 21/10/2012 23:30 Sent To: Guide Chat - Email Address: guide.chat@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [guide.chat] In Reply To: FIREWORKS!!!!! Hi Jim, I can only imagine what you went through .Some Years ago I was walking to the shops from a friends house, when me and my Guide Dog had a fire work thrown towards us, my dog jump into the road reacting quicker than me I don't know how I kept hold of her lead when dropping the harness,. My friend had witnessed this and started shouting at a group of young lads standing on a roof of a building or car park, they denied having anything to do with the fire work.I never got to the shops with my dog but ended up going back to my friends so we could get over the shock. For this reason I believe that fire works should be made quieter and more restrictions should be put in place. Luckerly my dog was able to continue working, but this is not the case for some Guide Dogs. I know that Guide Dogs have been Campaining for years to have the use of fire works tightened up. It is a shame that some working and retired dogs have to be put down when this is so unnecessary. Dawn I had to pop out tonight to visit a friend who's ill. On my way back - half a mile uphill on a well paved road - I was spooked by idiots letting off fireworks about twenty feet from me. They obviously knew I was there, and hoped to get a response. I can tell you, I had to stop for a couple of minutes to let my ears recover...then walk, very slowly, onward, making sure I had my bearings. I was prepared - roughly - for the second one...thrown in front of me. I simply stopped and dialled 999 on my mobile, told the police what was happening, and got home. The boys in blue asked me if I recognised the culprits...this was after I told them of my total night blindness! You couldn't make it up.... I might sound like a grouch, but, as far as I'm concerned, fireworks should be banned. Full stop. Jim PTL! < < ----- No virus found in this message.
