Yes, I know it isn't like me, but, hey, anything's possible!
It isn't only Jews who fast -after all, we share the same Bible - well, the Old 
Testament bit, at least. There are plenty of bits in the New Testament that 
talk about Christians fasting as well ( I won't bore others here by quoting 
stuff, but if you want to know more, I'll email you).
Christians usually fast as a type of prayer, though...and, Carol, I don't know 
how to tell you this...
fasting means no chocolate.
You can pick yourself off the floor now!

Our next communion is the first Sunday in October. As elders, we have special 
duties in church that day - we give out the elements of bread and wine to the 
congregation. Before the Communion Sunday, though, we have visiting to do.
Each elder has a district; a number of houses for which he or she is 
responsible, to encourage, talk with, counsel, console - that kind of thing. 
Each elder visits their district as often as they feel the need to, but we must 
visit before each communion, inviting the members to come, arranging a home 
communion for those who are housebound, etc.
I'm starting my round next week. I have fifteen houses to visit.
My problem isn't getting into the houses - I know my route backwards.
It's getting back out again! It usually takes me a lot longer than other 
elders....probably  'cos I can't shut up!
