Since you use first initial last name, maybe have them do firstname.lastname or 
firstname.middleinitial.lastname.

We are not trying to set up parents via LDAP, only employees.  Our problem is 
that we have some parent accounts that currently match an employee in active 
directory so we are having to change about 85 parent user accounts.  We want to 
publish a naming convention for parents to use from this point forward that 
will not match what we are currently using for employees.

We do not have a naming convention for parents.  We also do not have them setup 
via LDAP either.  We only have employees and students setup via LDAP because 
they are the only ones we have setup with emails in the system.  The name 
convention for them is 
firstname.lastname@xxxxxxxx<mailto:firstname.lastname@xxxxxxxx>.  For the 
parents, it can be anything they want and if they forget their username or 
password, they can call the school and have it reset by the secretary, clerk or 
media specialist.  We occasionally get calls from them and we help them, but 
tell them that they can have it done by the school if they need assistance next 
time.

We are attempting to sync active directory with ldap and have some users that
